3 ways to increase your engagement on Instagram

Instagram is the place to be for creators who want to build an engaged audience. The platform has made it clear that the best way to grow your account is by posting consistently, replying to comments, and creating shareable content.

Instagram has not been hiding how their algorithm works. And, for the most part, none of it is lies!

Who knew a day like this would come... A social platform giving sound advice for creators that are implementable and give the results promised... 👀

Don't tell TikTok, but the Instagram algorithm is dominating.

Right now, growth on Instagram is unmatched. Nothing I am going to share in this article is anything new.

But these are my top 3 ways to increase your engagement on Instagram that I have found to be the most successful in growing my own account (@jonymlee).

1. Consistency is key

I know you're thinking, 'Wow what a new perspective! How insightful! Never heard that one before!!!!!!'

BUT there's a reason clichés are cliché. They continue to be true no matter the time, place, or topic.

Consistency helps in a multitude of ways e.g. your own personal learning, it increases touchpoints to your brand, it generates more data etc.

BUT when it comes to increased engagement specifically, Instagram favours consistency. The algorithm is at its prime for creators who are putting out a consistent flow of content.

It's as if Instagram can recognise creator efforts and are rewarding them for it. This leads to more opportunity to find new audiences and increase your reach.

2. Reply to your comments

It's easy to forget to reply to commentary, but the comment section is the best way to encourage returning engagement.

When your audience understands they are part of a two-way conversation with you, it encourages them to continue to engage. Strategically, you can reply to comments that create points of discussion. The discussion creates more engagement on your posts.

This signals to the algorithm people are still engaging. And this leads to more reach and hopefully begins a cycle of reach and engagement.

3. Consider shareability

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, has shared the role of shareability for creator growth. There's no secret sauce here.

Content on Instagram is performing significantly better when it is shareable. I understand that the concept of shareability is not straightforward. We all have different views on what is 'shareable.'

My rule of thumb is if this is something a 16-year-old and a 60-yr-old can both relate to or enjoy watching, then it's probably shareable.

Instagram is putting in WERK. Trust me, this is the time to be focusing on your Instagram!
