What’s more important—PR or PB?

If you've got a limited marketing budget, you may wonder how much should go towards public relations (PR) vs. personal branding (PB). The answer lies in what you're trying to achieve as a brand.
Before you decide, here are some things to think about...
What's the difference between PR and PB?
PR involves storytelling and getting endorsements to enhance your credibility.
PB lets you shape your own narrative, message, and image. This fosters relatability and trust through showcasing your authentic values and challenges.
How do each of these increase your reach?
PR may offer you broader reach through external sources and media outlets. Of course, your reach is subject to media landscape changes and editorial decisions.
Your PB's reach starts with your existing audience. However, it expands as your personal brand grows. Over time, you can create a curated community through engaging with your audience.
How much is this going to cost you?
PR campaigns usually demand significant resources, including time, money, and personnel.
PB campaigns focus on content creation. This can range from simple ideas you execute yourself or paying an agency to do this for you.
What about the haters?
PR faces risks of negative coverage and public scrutiny. This means you need to have a plan for reputation and crisis management.
The authenticity displayed in your PB may invite criticism. However, you can put yourself in the midst of the conversation and actively manage, direct or problem solve within it.
Is your focus building an audience or a community?
Both PR and PB aim to communicate with an audience. PB is about building a curated community based on shared values and challenges.
PR focuses on reaching a larger audience but may not involve building a connection with them.
How responsive do you want to be?
In PR, you may need to appear over several published issues to shape or share an opinion.
PB lives on live social platforms. This means you can adapt to real-time events and interact with your audience in a relevant way.
PR may offer you broader reach initially. However, PB's focus on building a community through authentic engagement may provide more long-term value.
This is especially true in a changing media landscape where adaptability and direct engagement are crucial.

So, What’s the Tea?

Only a month to go before our favourite period drama, Bridgerton, returns for Season 3.
The Season 3 trailer's out, and it seems the story will focus on wallflower Penelope's search for love.
Each time a season comes out, Bridgerton-themed trends take the internet by storm.
Remember figuring out what your Bridgerton name is? This viral trend was all over TikTok last year, and the new season is the perfect time to bring it back.
And if you don't remember yours, the formula is simple:
Lord or Lady + Your middle name + The last thing you drank + "ton" + The first part of your street name + "shire"
So I'm Lady Leigh Waterton of Teshire. Not sure it has a great ring to it, but it's something, I guess?
Get ahead of this new season by sharing what your Bridgerton name is with your audience. For more drama, add some Bridgerton-inspired hair, outfits, or makeup to really sell it.
The internet's going nuts over golden girl Sabrina Carpenter’s new single "Espresso."
The synth wavy pop song is already topping both the charts and social media. And with the themes of self-confidence and being "that bitch", the girlies are eating it up.
Here's how to join the hype:
Dances. Duh! There are already some out there, so show your audience your take or create a new one.
Lip-sync for your life! Share your fave lyrics in a video of you lip-syncing and share why they resonate. Ex. "My hot girl summer is going to feel like (insert lyrics here)."
Espresso yourself. I've already seen trends popping up recreating Sabrina’s vintage look from her music video. Use these as inspo and express your twist!
Pop songs are great for trending audio, so put this one over whatever you think fits and have some fun.
This Friday is Poppy Day (or emembrance day), which is always the Friday before ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day.
It's a day to pay our respects to our veterans who fought for us in WW1, and all the wars that followed.
Please keep them in your thoughts and posts on Friday to show solidarity.

Ask the Editor

Q - I'm a life coach and post a ton on social media. Just wondering if I should be putting a call to action on all my posts to get people to sign up for my course? - Jessica
Hey Jessica,
The purpose of your content is to build your brand, not sell to people. And if your content's too pushy, people will get annoyed with you really quickly.
So stop thinking about CTAs that get people to sign up for something.
Instead, think about a CTA that will engage your audience. Ask a question or get them to ask you questions. This is building engagement and community, which will eventually turn into leads.
On the other hand, creating salesy content will just get people to tune you out.
