Your business isn’t that interesting.

Well, I’m sure it is to you.

But most people don’t care about it the way you do. Which can make it prettyyyy hard to grow your audience.

Today you’re going to see how we made one of our clients, who’s in a so-called “boring” industry, increase his engagement by 1000%.

In today's newsletter:

  • UFC 300’s happening on 14 April (here’s how to jump on the hype in your content)

  • The Bear’s coming back for Seasons 3&4 (what your brand can learn from this wildly successful show)

  • From “Boring” to Booming (how we increased our clients’ engagement by 1000%)

  • KWESCHENS with me! (find out what surprised me the most when I started at TAS)

  • When you’re too scared to put yourself out there (how to just post anyway)

And don’t forget to send me your marketing kweschens xoxo

So, What’s the Tea?

UFC 300 gears up for a stacked fight card.

UFC 300 is shaping up to be a must-watch event on 14 April.

The main event sees former middleweight champion Alex Pereira challenge Jamahal Hill for the light heavyweight title. Women's strawweight champion, Zhang Weili, will defend her belt. She's facing off against Yan Xiaonan, promising a technical and strategic fight.

Beyond the title fights, the card boasts veteran lightweight contenders Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway going toe-to-toe. Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira seeks redemption against the undefeated Arman Tsarukyan.

Even if you don't like watching the fights, there's always a good buzz across the socials for these events.

Some content ideas leading up to the fight:

  • Create polls asking your audience to vote for their favourite fighter, walkout song, or fight prediction. Highlight the results and encourage discussion.

  • Use fighters' last walk out songs to choreograph a TikTok dance. Or you can make a satire skit about walking up to the octagon.

And The Bear fans are rejoicing!

FX is planning back-to-back filming for seasons 3 and 4 of our favourite critically acclaimed show. Season 3 is expected to premiere in June 2024.

Let this be a lesson on leveraging hype. If you haven’t heard of The Bear this year you’re living under a rock. The show has been a constant topic of conversation and swept up the Emmy’s, taking home 10 awards.

The directors aren’t wasting any time in keeping this hype going. And, if you haven’t already, it’s time to take a page out of their book.

Have you had a video go viral lately? Has your audience been telling you they love a specific style of your content?

Replicate, replicate, replicate.

Ask yourself, How does this content style transform into a series? How can it be repeated?

Don’t miss the opportunity to keep doing what's working!

From “Boring” to Booming

We helped our client, Andy Alagappan, grow his LinkedIn engagement by 1000%. Our strategy involved creating consistent written content and developing a podcast. This led to Andy establishing himself as an industry thought leader.

When we first began working with Annamalai (Andy) Alagappan, he had two main goals:

  • Amplify his company, Strategic Planning Co., on socials.

  • Establish himself as the leading voice in the construction industry.

Although these seem straightforward, this was going to be harder than it sounded. Strategic Planning Co. operates in a field that a lot of people might find "too niche" or "too boring" for social media—strategic planning in the construction industry.

So how did we help Andy grow his audience?

1- We helped him create a strong presence on LinkedIn. To grow Andy's thought leadership, we posted content consistently and prioritised community management.

2- We started a podcast called "Yarns with Andy" so he could have conversations with others in the construction industry.

Making the "Boring" Interesting

We knew building trust and loyalty among Andy’s audience would come down to developing his personal brand.

While we focused on industry-specific topics in our content, we also delved into broader themes such as accountability and team dynamics. This made Andy relatable and authentic.

A 1000% increase!

This LinkedIn campaign generated 979,424 impressions and 8,154 engagements. His elevated brand visibility led to Andy's total following growing to 13,652.

In the end, Andy saw a 1000% increase for both impressions and engagements for the campaign. Our campaign didn't just position our client as a thought leader. It also helped reshape conversations around strengthening the construction industry as a whole.

Ask the Editor

Q - I really want to grow my audience on social media but I'm scared to put myself out there. What advice do you have? - Krista

Hey Krista,

This is such a common fear! For some reason, we think we have to come across as super put together on social media. Like if we aren't perfect, people won't like us or something.

When actually, the complete opposite is true. If you pretend to be perfect, your audience will see right through you. No one has it all together, all the time!

So just focus on being authentically you. Don't be afraid to talk about your journey and what you're still learning. That's what makes you relatable AND likeable!
