Jony's Saturday Wrap-Up || 6 April

Every week that I write this, I am always in awe of how agile we are.
We fit change in such little time to push our boundaries and learn. Our team f*cking ROCKS. Always go big or go home.
Here's what went down:
More and more improvements to our internal marketing and projects - it does not stop!!!
The ball is rolling with better TikTok content 👀 watch this space.
We're the problem. We blamed the LinkedIn algorithm for bad analytics and LOL. It's us. Not the algo......
The Dating Void's first shoot POPPED OFF. SO EXCITE. WE MADE A DATING SHOW???
All this work crammed into a 4 day week. Great job team. If you felt the stress of the short week, we did too.
Enjoy your weekend. I can't wait to just rot in bed <3

LET’S BREAK IT DOWN:

Your ATTN Please

In case you haven’t noticed, we're trying out a new format, putting case studies right at the top.
So what went well?
I'm liking this new format so far! Most of the reader feedback we've gotten is that case studies are what you all find most valuable. We’re working on making these a bit meatier as well. So let me know what you think!
What could have gone better?
We're working on updating some of the graphics. Eventually, we'll have individual thumbnails for each newsletter rather than just one standard one.
We haven't done enough to promote the newsletter. This means our new subscriber count has stagnated.
This week, we learnt we need to do more advertising for Your ATTN Please. Now we're putting some things into motion to promote it. We know that list growth will also improve our open rate, because new subs are more likely to open the email every day.

YAP Podcast

I know I say this every week.... but, we're still in it baBY!!! We might be changing YAP structure again.... BUT its always for the better right?
So what went well?
We got LIVE back woop! This means we get to chat to you guys in real time again (-: It also means we get a good amount of questions come through from our audience.
The interns are doing well pumping out briefs. We're quite impressed actually.
What could have gone better?
Talking about one creator doesn’t give us quite enough content to fill up a whole episode. It's getting a touch random at times with how little material we have for the segment. This means we aren’t giving a lot of practical takeaways. We're just talking sh*t half the time lol.
We're thinking of using the newsletter as part of our brief. We can talk about current trends, events, movements, etc. Then we can move into a creator segment, what's gone viral, and some Q&A from our live audience. Figuring out our structure will definitely help the podcast be more sustainable over time.

TAS Shortform Video Storylines

We are coming for you.
It's been a year of experimenting so far and we’ve been trying many different things with our content. Some of them great, some of them not so great.
But we have a plan.
So what went well?
We started pitch meetings where the team comes together and pitches ideas for this week's storyline. It allows us to actually have a story for our audience to follow as opposed to just random videos. You should start seeing these videos come out next week so let us know what you think.
What could have gone better?
Why did we film on a potato? Some of the videos this week looked as though they were shot in 360p. We aren't really sure why but we need to look at our processes to see why that happened.
We posted two videos that I will link below that weren't served to people. The only reason we got any views at all is because we have a lot of people who come to our profile to watch our videos. 0% of our views came from people seeing them on the FYP. We aren't sure why, but we need to do some investigating. Our current hypothesis is that they were encouraging commenting and TikTok didn't like it. On Instagram, they performed really well. Video 1 Video 2
I've told the team to start studying the way Matt Stone and Trey Parker develop South Park episodes each week. They are famous for their pitch meetings and producing entire episodes within a week, often delivering the final episode to the studio hours before it's due to go live.
We can then use this method of storytelling and creation to keep our content relevant and fresh.
-Stanley, CEO

Um. This is awkward.
It seems like we may have overreacted and the situation isn't quite as dire as we thought. Stay with me.
We're a team who's obsessed with 10X-ing our content. So, I guess when some posts began to perform less well than others, we may have prematurely panicked?
So what went well?
Charlotte and Stanley decided to zoom out and actually look at the last 365 days. Stan’s account has been performing well—actually better than last year. Overall, profile views increased and new followers increased.
Impressions weren't actually down overall. They were higher than before. We were just making comparisons between posts and those that we were looking at were just flops.
What could have gone better?
Looking at the last 365 days, virality on LinkedIn can be attributed to team related posts. So we are ramping these up again.
To paint a picture, Stanley's top 2 posts in the last year had to do with celebrating members of the TAS team, specifically Danya and Brookie, our intern-turned-Community Coordinator.
So yeah, long story short, we pranked ourselves. But look, it was still a valuable experience that taught us heaps. We learned that we can't just take anecdotal evidence and assume it’s fact.
The silver lining is this pushed us to test more content styles on LinkedIn. This helped us learn more about how the platform interacts with this style of content in general. Still a win, if you ask me.

TAS IRL

As much as we try to capture all our shenanigans for your entertainment, sometimes cool sh*t happens offline.
Here's what's gone down at TAS IRL this week:
The first official filming of The Dating Void is TONIGHT slayyyy! Four weeks ago, Stanley and Jony sat me down and walked me through their idea of a dating show. Four weeks and my first grey hair later we we’re filming tonight! We’ve got 45 sexy singles coming into the studio tonight. Let’s see if we can help them find luv. I’ll report back next week.
Our treasured Ness kicked off her work-from-home career. We miss her Latina spice in the office but she tells us she’s been crazy productive at her home office. And now gets to spend more time with the kiddos. Don’t fret, she still shares all of her crazy wisdom and research findings with us in the morning huddle or in our group chat.
A quarter of the office has been fixated on a smell for the last six weeks. The rest of us have no idea what they’re talking about. I’ve been told it smells like feet or dried fish. Lucky for me I sit on the opposite side of the office to said smell. Yesterday we had a poll and concluded it’s Connors's feet. That is until all-knowing Stan came along and reminded us we got an AC unit installed 6 weeks ago. Right around the time said smell showed up. I liked the narrative of Connor being smelly better.
