Jony's Wrap Up || Saturday, 16 March

linkedin? tiktok? hello?????

everyone is changing their algorithms and we're running around like headless chickens.

even though we feel a little lost in these social spaces, we are still gunning for global domination. dont worry we're gonna figure it out again (-:<

Here's what went down:

  • the strive for improvement is on FIYAAA 🔥we can't wait to do more trial and error next week.

  • the algorithm used to be our b*tch but, now the algorithm has made us it's b*tch 💔

  • our very own sophie released her latest song 'One Last Time' and is gonna open for Drax Project - R U KIDDING ME AHH

we've got a lot of learnings we're taking away this week and we cant wait to get into adapting our content. also, our team is so cool and fills me with so much joy - you'll get what i mean when you read TAS IRL hehe. lots of love, enjoy your weekend guys!!!

LET’S BREAK IT DOWN:

Your ATTN Please Newsletter

3 weeks in, and it turns out, we're a team of writers! This newsletter has been a great chance for everyone to learn how to write a segment. And so many of the team are getting involved.

So what went well?

  • We're featuring our interns. This week, we interviewing a few interns for the KWESCHENS series.

  • Our team is growing! Laura is now supporting us doing lots of bits and pieces to get our newsletter out each day. This gives me more time to coordinate and edit the segments.

What could have gone better?

  • Lots of people unsubscribed this week. Womp womp.

  • We want our newsletter to make it really easy for you to make your content. But it's still not practical enough to be super helpful.

  • We don't know how we're doing. Although our subscribers are growing steadily, we don't have a benchmark for a rate of growth we should aim for. This means we need to do more research!

This week, we've learnt that there's a lot of opportunity to do more crossover between the podcast and the newsletter. We'd like to start writing case studies about the creators we showcase on the podcast. This will give us more content for the newsletter without having to constantly dig up so many case studies.

YAP Podcast

Remember how we said we've built foundation and it's time to refine - We've implemented some refinements and I reckon they're going well (-:

So what went well?

  • Our interns Annelise and Abdel are now working with us to create more structure. Woop.

  • We're now provided briefs which keeps us from going off on tangents.

  • We're going LIVE as we record. It's allowing us to be able to chat to you guys in real time with any questions you may have.

What could have gone better?

  • Our LIVE questions segment is at the end of the podcast. This means you guys have to listen to us blabber for a while til you get your answers. Yawn.

  • We haven't done our best using our socials to let people know that this podcast exists! You'll see more soon I hope...

  • The briefs are great but, they can get better. I think implementing segment structures will improve the conversation around the content discussed. Work in progress but, we're getting there!

This week highlighted the importance of structure, structure, structure. There's only so much we can do on the fly. Structure is what is going to enable us to be more efficient and in the long run have more fun with y'all.

If you have any more suggestions on what we can do to make YAP more valuable to you, we would LOVE to know xo

Jony DIDN’T Get Fired

We wrapped up our budget leak storyline and Jony survived, backed up by all who colleagues who all jumped in and took the blame for her. So, what’s next?

So what went well?

  • We capitalised on the virality of the Oscars and made a tonne of videos including our own little award season. One of the videos was super successful gaining over 3M views.

  • Jony did the award ceremony for the Oscars content in one 8 minute take, which became 5 bits of content. This just shows that you can make a lot of content in a short amount of time.

  • We dropped the Ollie presentation video of him trying to get a job with us, and introduced a new character to the team here at TAS.

  • What I like the best from our wrap up of the budget leak story is that the team collectively came up with the ending to the saga (without input from Jony and me). This was them all taking ownership of the incident and having Jony’s back. I love that this is the culture of our team in action. If one of us fall we all fall. Even though it was a skit, that moment was real and was a complete surprise to me. Love it.

  • Crossover content is king. Jony and I both made content for our own pages based on the budget leak storyline and it worked. Jony had a 2M video from it and I had about 100K worth of views from my part. I also got about 1500 new followers.

What could have gone better?

  • We can always improve with everything, and better planning would mean that all the content we put out this week would have worked better but given the effort we put in I’m really proud of the team for delivering what they did.

We’ve learnt this week that the algorithm is unpredictable. In the past, we would be able to predict the success of a video within and hour of it being posted.

We saw this play out with one of our Oscars videos. It was at 500 views after a few hours which typically would suggest that it is going to flop. But then it finished the week on 3.3M.

WTF LinkedIn?!

We're no longer experts on LinkedIn. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it’s the truth. With the algorithm change, a lot has changed with how our posts reach people. So, the team is still in the midst of testing to crack the code.

So what went well?

  • We're still consistently putting out content and maintaining a strong presence on the platform.

  • Followership is still growing for our accounts. So this leads us to the hypothesis that perhaps LinkedIn's new algorithm is simply pushing out content only to people that would resonate with it.

  • We still have people coming up to Stanley and Claire on the street, giving us amazing feedback on the content. So obviously we are still reaching a lot of people.

What could have gone better?

  • The team isn't really posting now so we have a smaller data pool to learn from.

  • In terms of testing, we could have been more intentional with it. So, we're pivoting our approach and looking at posts that have done well on the platform despite the change and taking it from there.

  • We need to do more community management with more meaningful comments.

All in all, we've learned that we need a good basis for testing. This means intentional consumption of content and testing based off hypothesises drawn from that. At the moment, it's looking like we need to double down on going niche to help our content reach the right audience. We’re also testing leaving more meaningful comments on the platform.

TAS IRL

As much as we try to capture all our shenanigans for your entertainment, sometimes cool sh*t happens offline.

Here's what's gone down at TAS IRL this week:

Our very own Smokey Rose released her first single. AND she’s opening for Drax Project tonight in Hamilton. We couldn’t be more proud of her incredible talent and her beautiful tribute to her friend Ben. Go and listen to “One Last Time” here.

Our office angel Mel had a birthday. Arguably the sweetest person in the office, our community management superstar Mel, has officially turned 26. In a young office like ours, that’s approaching retirement age. We still love you granny Mel.

Last night we officially initiated our monthly client drinks. These will be an opportunity for our clients to get involved with the team and TAS content. Expect to see our gorgeous clients across the TAS social channels very soon.

Expect interrogation video on your Instagram feed next week. We officially reinstated interrogations filming this week. Every team member was asked a series of questions and let me tell you, we’re some characters. If you’ve been curious about the behind-the-scenes team at TAS this one is for you.

Half the team went off to volunteer at KiwiHarvest yesterday. KiwiHarvest is an incredible organization that rescues food before it goes to waste and shares it with those in need. It’s a pleasure to be involved in such an incredible initiative.
