Kamala Harris opens up on sex podcast

In an effort to reach female voters, Kamala Harris appeared on Call Her Daddy, a podcast known for candid chats about sex and relationships. The interview attracted over 5 million viewers and garnered widespread media attention, making it a win not just for Harris, but for host Alex Cooper, too.
Kamala Harris just gave a 40-minute interview that over 5 million people watched. Was it on CNN? Fox News?
Nope.
It was on Call Her Daddy.
Wait, why did a presidential candidate appear on a podcast that is known for talking about sex?
Good question. There are a lot of reasons.
But first, what is this podcast all about?
Call Her Daddy is a popular podcast hosted by Alex Cooper. It's known for its candid discussions on sex, relationships, and mental health.
Call Her Daddy began as a place for conversations about dating. Now, the podcast has everything from celebrity interviews to deep cultural discussions. It’s the US's most popular podcast on Spotify (just beating out The Joe Rogan Experience), with women being its target demographic.
And Harris is gunning for the female votes.
In a previous article, we discussed how Harris was harnessing the power of TikTok and current trends to get Gen Z’s vote. So, her appearance on Call Her Daddy is an extension of this youth-centric campaign.
Vice President Harris has not done many long interviews this election season. But going onto Call Her Daddy was the perfect opportunity to openly speak about issues that focused on one topic only--women.
Going on Call Her Daddy was a strategic move on Harris' part.
She knew she was going into 40 minutes of questioning by someone who wasn't a politician. Someone who would not ask her about her economic policies. Instead, she knew Cooper would delve into her personality. As a woman, as a mother, as a friend.
And she did so brilliantly.
During the interview, Harris also addressed comments made against her, including one from Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who questioned her humility. In response, Harris said, 'Not all women aspire to be humble.' In other words, some women want to be seen and heard. And this was one opportunity for her to do just that.
Alex Cooper has made it clear that having Harris on her podcast was not an endorsement.
Cooper has listeners with a wide range of political views, and she said at the beginning of the interview that her intention was not to change anyone's mind. In fact, she also invited Donald Trump to come onto her show. However, he did not respond to the invitation.
Interestingly, the podcast actually lost thousands of followers after this podcast aired. This may seem bad on the surface, but Cooper knew this was entirely possible.
But despite losing some followers, Call Her Daddy gained more media coverage than it ever had in the past.
Suddenly, big news channels were picking up Cooper’s podcast. So this interview allowed her to break into a whole new industry.
Hosting Harris elevated Alex Cooper's podcast into mainstream political discourse. Not only that, but the two proved that powerful conversations can happen in unexpected places.
