6 Steps to Creating a Simple LinkedIn Strategy

LinkedIn is a powerful platform for building your brand, generating leads, and connecting with your audience—but only if you have a clear strategy. Here’s how to get started…

LinkedIn is where this newsletter started.

I built my entire company, The Attention Seeker, on the platform.

And before I even posted my first video on TikTok, I already had 9 staff, all paid for from the business we generated on LinkedIn.

It’s a powerful platform for building your professional brand, connecting with your audience, and driving business results.

But without a clear strategy, it’s easy to feel lost.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a LinkedIn strategy that’s effective (and manageable).

1. Define your goals

Before diving into LinkedIn, get clear on what you want to achieve.

Ask yourself:

  • Are you trying to grow your personal brand?

  • Generate leads for your business?

  • Build a network in your industry?

Your goals will dictate how you approach content creation, engagement, and outreach.

2. Identify your target audience

Knowing who you’re speaking to is critical.

Think about:

  • What industries they work in.

  • The roles or job titles they hold.

  • The challenges they face.

When you know your audience, you can tailor your content and messages to resonate with them.

You can also find them really easily on LinkedIn using the search function. My suggestion is to start connecting with them to artificially grow your audience.

From MAGA to… Memecoins?

Trump’s new meme coin highlights how crypto has evolved from fringe tech to a politically charged cultural tool. It’s clear the line between finance and culture is blurring, so what does that mean for brands?

Donald Trump has never been one to shy away from a trend—especially one that can be monetised, weaponised, or both.

His latest venture appears to be going full steam ahead into crypto, even launching his own meme coin.

What started as a fringe movement of internet culture is now firmly in the hands of politicians.

And Trump’s playbook offers a masterclass (or cautionary tale) in hype-driven marketing.

So, what, if anything, does this mean for brands?

Trump has always understood branding better than most politicians.

His name is a product. His campaign rallies are events.

And now, his entrance into the crypto space follows the same formula: create exclusivity, build a cult-like following, and ride the wave of internet virality.

Here's what I mean:

  • His audience already thrives on loyalty and identity-driven consumption. A Trump-branded crypto product isn’t just about investment. It's about allegiance. This is how you seamlessly tap into a devoted base.

  • Meme coins are built on hype, irony, and internet culture—things Trump has utilised in politics for years. This is just the next logical step.

  • Kind of like limited-edition MAGA merch, the idea of a finite supply fuels FOMO and speculative trading.

While the president's move into crypto (what even is reality? lol) might seem to some like just another a publicity stunt, it signals a much larger shift:

The politicisation of digital finance.

Trend Plug - Do Not Come To My Town

Nobody likes it when THAT person shows up on YOUR turf, whether it's your home, that big competition you're in, or your private time at the gym.

Thankfully, there's a 12-year-old video that perfectly captures this vibe, and we're all better off because of it.

Back in 2012, German comedian Flula Borg (of "Jennifer poops at parties" fame) took to YouTube with questions about a classic Christmas tune with stalker-y vibes, and firmly declared:

"I do not like this song, 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'. Do not come to my town."

More than a decade later, this clip has gotten the Hopecore treatment and is now part of a beloved viral TikTok trend.

The sound has been used to describe situations when people push boundaries and invade your space, like when the group chat decides the hangout is at your house, or when people you thought you left in your hometown find their way into your college.

How you can jump on this trend:

Just turn the camera on yourself, lip sync with this sound, and add text describing times where your personal space was invaded, or someone you REALLY didn't wanna see showed up at that thing you care about.

A few ideas to get you started:

  • "When you go to the gym after work to de-stress, and the coworker stressing you rolls up"

  • "When someone you can't stand asks if your work has any openings"

  • "When you're having a girls' night and he asks to tag along"

Q - How do I begin building thought leadership in my written content? - Kathryn

Hey Kathryn!

Becoming a thought leader doesn't happen overnight. So if that's your goal, you need to commit to putting out authentic content regularly. This should be your unique take on what's happening in your industry right now, based on your personal expertise.

Another important part of building thought leadership is growing your network. So connect with people who are forward-thinking in your industry. Engage with their content and contribute your own thoughts to the conversation.

The more you interact with people in your industry and share your insights, the more you'll be seen as a thought leader over time. Remember to keep your content authentic to you, which is how you’ll stand out as someone who has a fresh perspective!

And, of course, check out the tips in 6 steps to creating a simple LinkedIn strategy to help you get started.
