Airbnb Offers New ‘Icon’-ic Stays

Airbnb's new 'icon stays’ give guests the chance to be hosted by celebrities like Doja Cat or Kevin Hart. The campaign aligns with the brand's goal to offer unique travel experiences rather than just accommodation.

Last week I was sick as a DOG.

So, when I wrote about Airbnb, and their incredible success story, I somehow through crusty, musty eyes missed the news about their new campaign.

Which is crazy, because it’s a campaign like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

Airbnb wants to offer their guests access to worlds they’ve only ever dreamed of.

How, you say? With their new Icon Category.

Throughout 2024, the company will release 11 icon stays around the US and the world. At these stays, guests will be hosted by Kevin Hart, Doja Cat or TikTok sensation Khaby Lame. And they'll stay in sites such as Prince’s (yes, THE prince) ‘Purple Rain’ house or spend the night in the Musée d’Orsay.

The new campaign stems from Airbnb’s effort to provide more than just accommodation.

'Icons are a way of really grabbing people's attention and getting them excited about the idea that Airbnb is more than just a place to stay,' said Jay Carney, global head of policy and communications at the company.

Zillow Gone Wild—How 1 Guy’s Hobby Became an HGTV show

Zillow Gone Wild began as a social media account highlighting the most outrageous homes on the market. Because of its popularity on several social platforms, HGTV has now created a series based on the concept.

Have you guys heard of Zillow Gone Wild?

It is a crazy story of how an obscure hobby turned into a social media account which turned into a reality TV show on HGTV. All at the hands of Samir Mezrahi.

Once the social media director for Buzzfeed, Mezrahi spent over a decade scouring the internet for story content.

But in December 2020, everything changed. Using the same Buzzfeed-esque method of search, post, destroy with pithy commentary, Mezrahi created Zillow Gone Wild.

This was an account featuring the quirkiest homes on the market. I’m talking castle-themed mansions with full on drawbridges. An unsuspecting from the outside, but insane barbie-core on the inside Indiana home. And a house shaped like a UFO.

Trend Plug - Name Your Child After Something You Love

This two photo carousel has been taking over Tiktok.

The first image says, 'normalise naming your child after something you love.’ And the following photo depicts the most absurd ideas like, an iced mocha, with the onscreen text, 'Goodnight, iced mocha.'

Tiktokers are using this trend to show their appreciation for things like Double Vodka Redbull and Tom Holland's new haircut.

How to jump on this trend:

You just need to two photos. One of you, or a nice aesthetic background. Add onscreen text, 'Normalise naming your child after something you love.' The second photo should be of something you adore. Add the onscreen text, 'Goodnight [thing you love].'

A few ideas to get you started:

  • Goodnight Canva

  • Goodnight colour-coded calendar

  • Goodnight half work days

Q - How do you get over any initial slump of starting to post when you don’t have a niche idea to start with? - Nabbers

Hey Nabbers!

If you aren't sure what kind of content to post, begin by thinking about who you want your audience to be and what platform you want to build your audience on.

Once you have that as a starting point, pay attention to what's working on that platform right now. What are others doing to reach that audience? Once you've got a decent answer to that, you just have to start creating content.

You will never feel ready! But the sooner you start, the sooner you can begin seeing what works and adjusting what you're doing based on your metrics.

It may take quite a bit of time to find your style and niche, but you will get there way faster by just trying stuff. The longer you wait to start, the longer it will take to figure that out!
