Let’s be real, marketers simp for Gen Z.

As they should, considering the sheer size and purchasing power of the demographic.

Luckily, Gen Z speak in trends. And today, we’ve got 3 your brand should be focusing on right now to connect with them the right way (not the ‘skibidi toilet rizz’ way).

In today's newsletter:

  • Is it Demure Fall or Early Halloween? (here’s what the youngin’s are doing)

  • Maybe she’s born with it (maybe it’s a revamped strategy for TikTok!?)

  • Trend plug - Be yourself unapologetically singing 'Espresso'

  • Ask the Editor - How do I get over imposter syndrome and start posting?

3 Gen Z Trends Your Brand Needs to Know About

Gen Z make up 40% of the global consumer market, and account for $450 billion in annual spending. Here are 3 trends that will help you connect with this colossal audience.

Gen Z this, Gen Z that. Damn, can the rest of us get some airtime, please!?

Watching brands try to twist themselves into pretzels to get the attention of the demographic can be kind of insane. Then again, I do the same for my crush. So who am I to judge?

I mean, they are the world’s largest generation, making up 32% of the entire global population. They’re also a huge force in the consumer market, accounting for 40% of global consumers, and $450 billion in annual spending.

So yeah, I get it. They’re not exactly a group you want to skip over when it comes to marketing efforts.

Unfortunately, throwing 'skibidi toilet rizz' into your campaigns just won’t cut it.

Connecting with Gen Z goes a little deeper than piggybacking off social issues or turning everything you put out into a meme.

Fortunately, we have options.

'Maybe it's Maybelline' Returns for TikTok

Maybelline is bringing back its iconic 2000s tagline for a new and improved TikTok focused campaign, tapping into nostalgia marketing in hopes of capturing a younger audience.

Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe I don’t even need to finish the tagline because you already know the rest.

Yeah, iconic.

Gen Z will never know what it was like to have one of the most recognisable phrases in marketing stuck in your head all day long.

Or…maybe they will.

Because the Loreal-owned beauty brand is bringing it back.

Maybelline New York is revamping 'Maybe it’s Maybelline' as a jingle tailored to social media, according to a press release on September 3rd.

The brand launched the new campaign on TikTok in a video featuring an array of stars. Gigi Hadid, Storm Reid, Peggy Gou and Shay Mitchell remix the phrase with their own version on a FaceTime-style call.

Trend Plug - Be Yourself Unapologetically Singing ‘Espresso’

Sabrina Carpenter is dominating the music charts AND our FYPs with this hilarious new video from Chicken Shop Date Icon, Amelia Dimoldenberg.

The original video, with now over 30 MILLION views, comes from Amelia's TikTok, where she's seen lip syncing Sabrina's Coachella performance, all while Carpenter is in the back like 😐

Being unapologetically themselves, TikTokers are seen expressing themselves however they feel, even if people are seemingly judging in the background.

This could be anything from singing a song you know at a store, to talking about football (knowing damn well your friends couldn't give a single sh*t.)

How to jump on this trend:

Easier than ever to replicate, just hit this CapCut template, insert a pic of the environment/scenario of your choice, and don't forget to use this sound!

A few ideas to get you started:

  • me at work

  • my intern showing me their latest tiktok

  • me presenting the deck to my client

Q - How do I get over my ADHD and imposter syndrome and just start posting? - Rosalie

Hi Rosalie! ♡

The best way to curve your imposter syndrome, is by doing. I know, I hate that answer too.

But something that changed my fear of posting was getting rid of the mindset that everybody is judging my content. Particularly when you’re starting out, you basically have free reign to post whatever you like – because your audience is small and the world is your oyster!

After that, it’s just about consistency. Set a reminder on your phone to post once a day. If you stick to a regular posting schedule, your account should grow organically, and your imposter syndrome will eventually vanish because you’re already doing the thing.
