70% of marketers have experienced burnout this year.
And it’s not that hard to understand why.
Ever-evolving platforms. Changing consumer trends. AI. It’s like riding a merry-go-round that’s constantly speeding up. And with Q4 in full swing, it’s enough to make anyone want to get off this ride. So today, we’re talking about how to prevent burnout (before it’s too late!).
In today's newsletter:
4 Ways to fight Q4 burnout (here’s how not to become just another statistic)
Are Instagram's new digital business cards just a gimmick? (find out whether we think ‘profile cards’ are actually worth using)

4 Ways to Fight Q4 Burnout

Client expectations, constant deadlines, and an ever-changing industry landscape means marketers experience very high rates of burnout. But if we want to maintain our creative output, we have to make our wellbeing a priority (yes, even in Q4!).
Hello, my beautiful, angel-faced, fellow marketers. How are we all feeling?
I ask this question because I just came across a concerning headline that read:
'Burnout hits 70% of media, marketing and creative professionals, reveals 2024 Mentally Healthy Survey.'
SEVENTY PERCENT? Yikes.
I knew burnout rates in our industry were bad, but I didn’t quite realise how bad.
Seven in 10 professionals across the media, marketing and creative sectors have reported experiencing burnout in the past 12 months, the 2024 Mentally Healthy Survey has revealed.
With the collective overwhelm most of us feel as the pressure of Q4 hits, and these stats in mind – I thought a little check in would do us all good, myself included.
Constant deadlines, the need to have our creative brains constantly turned on, and balancing multiple clients and campaigns can be enough to make the sanest of humans feel a little cuckoo.
On one hand, there’s work to be done! But, on the other, simply 'pushing through' is not always the best option for our sweet little minds, bodies or souls – despite this kind of being the go-to solution in our field.
We’re an industry known for working hard and playing harder.
And while I love having my cake and eating it, too, this can often lead to some pretty grim effects.

Are Instagram's New Digital Business Cards Just a Gimmick?

Instagram's new 'Profile Cards' make it easier to find friends and expand your professional network, too. These customisable digital business cards are a cool idea, but it's hard to know if they will become popular across industries, or only for creators.
Few things in this world boost your ego quite like opening a package of 500 business cards with your personal details plastered across them.
But don't worry, if you've never felt such a thrill, now you can!
Instagram now provides a colourful and multifaceted new alternative to business cards (albeit with less paper).
The app recently introduced 'Profile Cards,' a feature you can find right now by going to your page and hitting 'Share Profile.'
A digital card should pop up with 2 distinct faces to flip between:
The 'back' of the card features a customisable background and a QR code linking to your profile. The 'front' has your profile pic, Insta bio, and Threads handle.
You can also attach links and even a song of your choice to the card. Whenever you send your card to someone, they will see everything you've added to it.
That’s cool, but why do I need an Instagram business card?
The 'why' of these digital cards comes down to the rise of influencer culture and shared dreams of making it as a creator.
Meta, Instagram's parent company, told TechCrunch the cards were made in response to Gen Z using their Insta like a resume. This aligns with survey findings suggesting 57% of young people want to be influencers.

Trend Plug - Saying Something Stupid Like…

Apparently Jennifer Lawrence HATES singing, according to several interviews.
But, for some reason, her famously raspy voice just does something to our ears (mine especially). And this cover of 'Something Stupid' from her movie Joy, has become the latest TikTok trending sound.
The quote goes, 'And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like...'
TikTokers are using this sound to highlight moments when they've said something so cringe, unhinged, or so regrettable that it results in them 'spoiling it all.' For example, '...saying something stupid like i need to poop' and '...saying something stupid like YOUR MOM'
How you can jump on this trend:
Use this sound and tell your audience that one thing you said that just spoiled everything. Split your OST by first putting 'and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like...' then reveal your famous one-liner. This will give that suspenseful feeling to make sure the viewer watches your whole video.
A few ideas to get you started:
And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like:
'I NEED ANOTHER COFFEE'
'How was your weekend?' (I don't care about their weekend)
'Of course I can finish this project earlier'

Q - I want to run a giveaway on Instagram for my business (selling Canva templates). What do I need to do? - Kris
Hey Kris!
First, you need to think about what your goals are for this giveaway. Are you trying to get new followers, boost your engagement, or promote a specific product? Your goals will determine what you will ask people to do to enter.
Next, you need to decide what your entry rules will be. These might be things like asking people to follow you, tag a friend in the comments, or share a post in their stories.
Once you've nailed down the specifics, you need to promote the heck out of your giveaway. This means creating a lot of content around it. If you can collab with some microinfluencers, this can really help your reach. Create urgency by using tools like countdown stickers in your stories.
Then, after you announce the winner, make sure to engage with your new followers and people who entered the giveaway so they stick around.
