We all love a scandal.

As long as it’s not about our own brand, right?

Unfortunately for Kylie Jenner, this scandal might be the end of her cosmetics brand. Better make sure you aren’t making the same mistake she did…

In today's newsletter:

  • The F1 Aussie Grand Prix’s this weekend (time to get your predictions out there!)

  • Bad Bunny’s suing a fan (apparently what they did is illegal—even though we all do it, too)

  • The downfall of Kylie Cosmetics (plus how NOT to alienate your audience)

  • KWESCHENS with Vanessa (find out the questionable TAS photo she found)

  • LinkedIn’s for boring, old guys (or is it?)

So, What’s the Tea?

After a two-week break that had fans itching, Formula-1 is back for the Australian Grand Prix.

And for once, fans on this side of the hemisphere won't have to tune in at an UNGODLY hour. This weekend, the race takes place in Albert Park Circuit, Melbourne (sorry northern hemi dwellers.)

Last year was nothing short of chaotic with Ferrari’s sweetheart, Charles Leclerc, being Strolled, amongst other crashes. Although, considering the previous two races, it seems the crowd is looking for some theatrics. Guess Verstappen and Red Bull Racing winning ALL the time has turned sour on F1 fans’ palates.

If history's anything to go by, fans expect an unsurprising end result to the AUS Grand Prix. But there's still hope that the other teams can provide competition to keep it interesting. Maybe that’s wishful thinking.

Content ideas:

  • Place your bets on how much lead time Max Verstappen will have against the rest of the paddock.

  • Make your predictions for Qualifying and Race Day.

  • TikTok King, Fernando Alonso, will NO doubt post this weekend. So get in the comments and join the conversation.

Bad Bunny is suing a fan after they recorded and uploaded footage of his concert to their YouTube channel.

The suit claims infringements such as copyright and false endorsement. Bad Bunny is seeking $150,000 for EACH of the 10 songs recorded at the concert. Ouch.

Technically, posting concert footage breaches copyright laws, but other artists don't seem to mind. I guess they see posting concert footage as another form of marketing and a way to create hype.

So should we fear capturing concert footage in the future? Are we all risking a potential $150,000 fine for each song we capture? Bags not!

Some content ideas:

  • Create content about not knowing if what you are doing is illegal or not.

  • Tell your audience what a "badass" you are for getting away with something illegal (like filming a concert!)

  • Do you agree with Bad Bunny's decision to sue? Create content with your take on the whole situation.

The Downfall of Kylie Cosmetics

Kylie Jenner’s incredibly successful makeup brand could find itself going bankrupt in the next few years. All because she lost the trust of her audience after admitting her look was the result of lip fillers, not her products.

Back to the Beginning

Kylie Jenner launched Kylie Cosmetics back in 2016—the age of influencers, pop culture, trends, wokeness, authenticity, etc.

The brand launched during a time when the public was speculating that Kylie Jenner had gotten lip injections. The infamous Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge sparked, causing an absolute frenzy on the internet.

Kylie Cosmetics’ marketing was pure genius (at the start).

They used a strategy of cultivating some type of urgency from the public to buy products. And it worked. Kylie Cosmetics sold out of products within 2 minutes of launching.

So what went wrong?

The brand was originally marketed by saying, “Use this and be like Kylie Jenner!” So when the celebrity came forward and admitted to having lip injections, her brand image began to slip. The public was no longer convinced that her products were going to provide them with the “picture perfect” Kylie Jenner look.

What can we learn?

If you’re going to posture yourself as a brand, people have to like you, and trust you. Point blank. So focus on building a reputation that’s authentic.

Kylie Jenner’s name WAS her brand. So when her authenticity faded, her brand and reputation went right along with it.

Ask the Editor

Q - You guys talk so much about LinkedIn. I've never actually used the platform. Am I missing something? - Emily

I feel like so many people think LinkedIn is just for boring old guys. It's such an underrated platform.

Which is crazy, because where else can you have direct contact with CEOs? If you own a business, they could be your next big client. And if you don't, they may be looking to hire someone like you.

If you build your professional or personal brand on LinkedIn, I promise you'll be surprised at how many opportunities come from it.

Just start posting on there, be consistent, and see what happens!
