Is a problem ever just a problem?

Or is it always an opportunity? And in some cases, a VERY lucrative one at that?

Today our Creative Director, Nate, dives into how he worked with Nike to turn a total headache into millions of dollars (literally). Plus, we’re sharing what you need to do to get ready for one of the most dramatic televised events of the year—the Oscars!

In today's newsletter:

  • The Oscars (Mar 11)

  • St. Patrick's Day (Mar 17)

  • Turning a gnarly problem into a multi-million dollar business

  • What's going viral right now

  • Wtf do we actually do at TAS? (because apparently you guys don’t know)

So, What’s the Tea?

The Oscars are approaching on March 11.

And we all know it’s not just about the awards. It’s about the outfits. The drama. And the reactions to who wins what (or doesn’t!). So get ready to jump into the conversation that’s about to hit social media.

Here's how to bring the Oscars into your content:

  • Highlight the most outrageous outfits. You know everyone at the Oscars is going to be dressed to the nines. So, if it’s relevant to your brand, get ready to recreate some of the best looks. You can also make reaction vids to share what you think about the most interesting fashion choices.

  • Keep an eye out for controversial wins or slights. This will definitely be a hot topic on social media after the award ceremony. So get in there and join the conversation! Share whether you think the awards went to the right people or if anyone was done dirty.

  • Offer a Oscar-themed promo. If it's relevant to your brand, why not do a giveaway? Think a hamper full of food and wine for Oscar-watching parties or a free streaming subscription.

As if the Oscars aren’t enough to get you excited for March, it’s also time to gear up for everyone’s favourite green-themed day.

I'm sick of the mothaf*cking snakes on this mothaf*cking island...

...is probably what St. Patrick said right before yeeting those serpents out into the ocean. But why is St. Patrick's Day such a boozy holiday?

And how can you bring the fun, emerald vibes of St. Patty’s Day into your content?

However you celebrate, make sure your content’s in line with your brand. As long as you’re thinking about what will resonate with your unique audience, you can’t go wrong.

Turning a Gnarly Problem into a Multi-million Dollar Business

Nike’s system for creating custom kit sets used to be more trouble than it was worth. But it turns out there was a simple solution to turning this headache into an extremely profitable business.

Here's the story told by our very own Creative Director, Nate.

There’s always opportunity in a problem.

And sometimes, one conversation can spark an idea that completely changes the direction of a business.

Before I moved to NZ, I was working with Nike in the UK. We’d often go to Nike Town to check out products, launches, talk to the staff and the like.

One day we got to chatting with the person that ran the personalised kit counter. This was where people could come to the store and order customised football kits for their club.

It was all manual. The logos, colours, names, numbers were all done by hand and via email.

Unsurprisingly, according to the staffer, it was also a total and utter ball ache.

So much so they were thinking about shutting it down. Which didn’t make much sense, as part of the problem was that they were always "too busy".

So we went away, had a think, and built a little test site to show Nike how they could bring the whole business unit online.

That little test site eventually turned into a multi-million dollar business. All because of a chat with a staff member.

So the next time you've got a tricky problem you can't seem to solve, look for the opportunity instead.

Q - I signed up for the newsletter but I’m confused. What do you guys actually do at TAS? - Shushaan

Hi Shushaan,

This question made me LOL. It turns out a lot of people follow us on social media and have absolutely no idea what we do. So let’s clear that up.

Our team helps brands grow their audience on social media. Some of our clients are entrepreneurs who want to start a podcast or become a big name in their industry. And some are large companies that need help creating video content people actually want to watch.

But the point isn’t just to get our clients leads (even though that’s a nice by-product of what we do.). It’s more about building their brand by getting as many eyeballs on it as possible. This opens up all kinds of opportunities for our clients beyond just getting more leads.

Not to brag, but we’re pretty good at helping our clients go viral!

Hope that helps xoxo
