Ever heard of a content unicorn?

The type of video that goes viral every. single. time.?

Today our TikTok queen, Jony, is sharing how she comes up with this type of content. Jony has over 620k followers so when she talks TikTok, I listen!

In today's newsletter:

  • JoJo Siwa’s rebranded herself (find out why she’s no longer safe for kids)

  • SZA’s coming down under (here’s how to ride the wave in your own content)

  • How to create a content unicorn (get it right and you’ll go viral)

  • Why you aren’t getting leads from your socials (and what to do about it)

So, What’s the Tea?

Jojo Siwa's ditching her family-friendly image.

Reinvention is the name of the game! Think Madonna, Harry Styles, and Miley Cyrus. All celebs who have taken their old image and made something new (and arguably better).

Now, the freshly tattooed Jojo Siwa is warning fans that her new era is “not made for children and may be disturbing or offensive to some viewers.”

Whether this will work out for her, we don’t know. But rebrands are a natural part of marketing.

So how can you leverage this for your own content?

  • Maybe you fake a rebrand. April Fools is coming up after all?

  • Or, if relevant to your business, make light of your brand not being safe for kids. Whether you sell booze or tanning beds, the opportunities are endless.

  • And this is hyper niche, but if you’re a tattoo removal business, you’ve got a new potential customer in ole Jojo.

SZA’s coming down under!

The singer-songwriter is returning to NZ for the first time since 2018 and we couldn’t be more ready. And it seems as if we aren’t the only ones that are stoked she’s returning.

Sadly, both shows have sold out in a matter of days, leaving only resale tickets available. Some fans are really showing their dedication by sitting in queues of more than 9000 people for tickets. Others are opting to attend solo due to prices.

How can this translate into your online content?

- Use some 💖girl math💖 to justify your reasoning behind the hefty purchase (or to just make yourself feel better that you’re not going).

- Use some of the singer’s audios online! If we can’t listen to SZA live, we can always pretend 😭

How to Create a Content Unicorn

One of the best ways to post consistently is to have content styles you use over and over. Jony has coined this concept ERC-Easy, Repeatable Content. And when you get it right, you can create content that goes viral every time.

Think of Khabey Lame's reaction videos, Jony's coffee tests, or Chris Olsen's heel tests. These creators use the same content style every time, only changing one variable.

This makes it easy to create consistently because there's no need to reinvent the wheel for every piece of content.

When Jony decided to bring ERC to the TAS TikTok account, she stumbled upon Wavelength. This game turned out to be the most successful ERC style we've found so far.

So, why Wavelength?

Well, it's a game that really brings out people's personalities and shows how the team works together. Plus, playing games makes everyone feel more relaxed, so they act more like themselves, making the content more genuine.

The elusive ERC unicorn

But even though Wavelength was a hit, Jony doesn't think it's the ultimate ERC, or as she calls it, "a unicorn." A unicorn is a formula for ERC that results in viral videos. We admit, an ERC unicorn is pretty rare!

What does an ERC unicorn look like?

  • The concept needs little to no explanation. Just by watching the video, people get what's going on. This increases the chances of it going viral.

  • The content's easy to edit. You don't want to spend hours tweaking a video. Editing should be quick and simple.

  • You should be able to make lots of content from just one idea. That way, you never run out of things to post.

  • There shouldn't be too many barriers. The video can't be a huge production with tonnes of props and setup.

Remember, ERC isn't always a piece of cake, but it shouldn't be super difficult either. Once you have the idea, filming should be a breeze.

The best way to find the perfect ERC is to experiment and see what people like. Sometimes, what catches their eye doesn't make sense. I mean, why do people like watching Jony drop a teaspoon in a coffee?

We aren't sure. It just works!

Ask the Editor

Q - I've got a decent following on social media, but I'm not getting many leads yet. What am I doing wrong? - Clay

Hi Clay,

You may not want to hear this, but there's no magic formula for getting leads from your content.

Building your business on social media takes time. You've got to put out content. Comment on other people's posts. And become part of a community.

Honestly, it takes at least 3 months of being consistent before you'll start seeing leads come in.

So just keep improving on your content and engaging with your audience. Eventually the leads will come!
