If your reach is limited, you need to know.
Because, if Meta flags you, your content won’t reach people beyond your current followers.
Today, you’ll find out how to make sure that isn’t happening to you.
In today's newsletter:
Is Meta limiting political content? (and what to do if your account gets flagged)
Elon Musk announces his Robotaxi is almost here (it’s only taken 8 years!)
Billie Eilish adds millions of followers to her Close Friends list (plus how you can use this for your own content)
KWESCHENS with Madi (and her “coffee order” is downright offensive)
What the heck is agile content? (steal the strategy we use to create content for our clients AND ourselves!)

Is Meta Limiting Political Content?

A new Instagram and Threads feature automatically filters out political content on discovery pages. Though it's easy to turn this off as a user, there are a few extra hurdles if you're a content creator who's been labelled a "political" account.
Meta announced in February that they are automatically turning on a filter in Instagram and Threads user’s settings. This will reduce the amount of political content they're exposed to on the discovery page.
This feature is contentious for obvious reasons. But there's a separate burning question for creators…
Is this new filter restricting your content's reach?
If so, there's a strong chance it's because the platform sees you as a "political" account. This means the platform will no longer recommend your content in places like Reels and the Explore page.
Instagram says professional accounts can look at their Account Status to find out whether they're eligible to be recommended by the platform.
So, if you’re unsure if Meta is restricting your content, check your account status first. If you're flagged, you can edit, remove or request a review on your post.
How do you stay discoverable?
Being flagged as "political" won't affect your current audience. But your account's discovery will be dramatically reduced for non-followers.
So it’s important that you spread awareness of this feature with your followers. Then they can also share this information (and your content!) with their peers.
What if you want to keep seeing political content?
As a user on these platforms, you can turn off this restriction filter in your Instagram and Threads settings. Many online sites go into further detail with step-by-step guides on how to do this.
So, What’s the Tea?

Nothing alienates your audience quite like an unfulfilled promise.
Ever since 2016, Elon Musk has been claiming Tesla will release self-driving taxis. But 8 years on with nothing to show for it, it's definitely felt like he may never deliver.
Until now.
This week, Musk tweeted that Tesla will unveil their Robotaxi on 8/8.
And, to be honest, the timing's a bit suss.
Tesla's gone through a period of slow growth recently. And, after this announcement, Tesla shares went up 4.8%. Funny how that works.
Anyway, old Elon's waited so long that a few others have beat him to the whole robotaxi game. GM has already launched its self-driving rideshare service, Cruise. And Waymo is operating its self-driving service in 3 (soon to be 4) cities across the U.S.
So how can you use this in your content?
Are you game? Create a reaction video telling your audience whether you'd be comfortable riding in a self-driving car. I, for one, am not in a hurry to try it!
Give your 2 cents. Love him or hate him, Elon's making headlines right and left. Create content giving your take on what you think of him and ask your audience to weigh in, too.
Not to brag but I'm on Billie Eilish's close friends list on Instagram.
Along with 120 million other people, BUT that's beside the point.
All 100 million of Billie's followers were added to her close friends list with no explanation.
Obviously, this got everybody talking. Some fans thought that they were one of a few selected people to be her close friends. That was, until they realise Eilish had added everyone!
The result? Over 8 million new followers within 2 days.
So how can you have some fun with this cultural moment?
Create POV content around realising you weren't actually chosen to be one of Eilish's close friends.
Make your own VIP online community for your most loyal fans. This is a great way to foster more intimate engagement with a smaller audience. Just make sure they know you’ve actually handpicked them—not just added everyone!

Ask the Editor

Q - You guys talk a lot about agile content creation. What does that mean? - Gill
Hey Gill,
When we say agile content, we mean content that’s responsive to what's going on right now.
And there are two parts to that.
First, the content itself is relevant and current. For example, when the Oscars were going on, Jony created an Oscars awards ceremony in our office.
For our clients, we're creating posts based on what's happening in their world right now. We talk to them multiple times a week, ask them what they're up to and what's on their mind. Then we use that to create content.
The second element to agile content is constant testing. That means we don't create 20 videos at once and hope they go well. Instead, we try a few at a time, get client feedback, see how their audience reacts, then learn from it. This means we can quickly improve our content because we are iterating on it all the time.
