When Getting Lost is a Good Thing

In Feb 2024, Wizz Air posted an Instagram reel offering a free trip to an unknown destination. The post itself had just over 5,000 likes. But, even though the numbers don't make it obvious, the campaign garnered a lot of attention for the airline.
How much planning do you put into your holidays? Does it stress you out? Would you sooner give up control completely when it comes to everything to do with your holiday?
That's exactly what some travellers did when they won the ‘Get Lost’ free trip to an unknown destination. Winners were left in the dark about their destination until finding out they were vacationing in Turkey when they landed!
So why did this campaign go viral?
The success of the campaign came from people who were on the trip. Winners who attended the trip documented the experience. They shared each moment on TikTok, from leaving Gatwick Airport to the trip itself.
What can we learn from Wizz Air's success?
The main takeaway of this campaign is that social proof is everything. In a world where many brands pay influencers for publicity, people value testimonials and authenticity. Whilst owned media is crucial for long term brand building, earned media can push your brand into the limelight.
In the case of the Get Lost campaign, the audience knew that the prize was a trip. Not only was it a high-value prize, but it was the perfect opportunity to create content. And this, of course, was great marketing for Wizz Air.
Your brand may not be able to offer free trips, but you can replicate the suspense of the unknown. A mystery box giveaway can create the same feeling of suspense. But if you want your audience to create content, you have to give away something valueable!

So, What’s the Tea?

HBO has dropped two different "House of the Dragon" trailers.
The announcement's reinvigorating the hype back into the series to prepare everyone for Season 2!
The trailers are from two points of view--Team Black and Team Green. Whether you sympathize with Alicent Hightower or Rhaenyra Targaryen, season 2 is bound to rile the GoT masses!
There is already so much hype behind this series, with the trailers garnering approximately 17.6 MILLION views! There is much content to be made around this series, so get to it before the wave passes by!
Here's a few ideas:
- Make reaction videos as you watch the trailers.
- Make content around the house you are backing. Show everyone your support for your house and get your audience to rally behind you!
- Do HotD inspired fashion videos. Show off your creativity with the clothing you can put together that looks like it's from the universe itself!
In other news, Margot Robbie is set to bring the popular simulation game "The Sims" to life on the big screen.
The news of Margot Robbie's production company taking on 'The Sims' has sent shockwaves through the fan community. After the massive success of Barbie, fans are buzzing on social media, rallying for Jenna Ortega to play Cassandra Goth.
We don't know much yet, but one thing is clear: the cinematic production won't be a typical adaptation of the game. Instead, it's a unique exploration of life as a character from 'The Sims.'
We know Gen Z had never seen the Original The Sims before it went to PS4, but they love to miss a time they've never lived.
The reality is that "the past is here to stay," with some adaptations, of course.
This just goes to show there's never been a better time to be a cringy millennial. So don't be afraid to be one on your socials. Join the conversation about what you think this movie will be like—then wait and see if your predictions are correct!

Ask the Editor

Q - I work in marketing for an earthmoving company, farming and fertiliser spreading company, and a real estate and holiday rental company. Do you think I should get them on TikTok? - Charli
Hi Charli,
Wow, you’ve got a really interesting mix of businesses there! I think there is definitely potential for them to build an audience on TikTok.
The important thing to think about is whether you’re willing to put the time, resources, and effort into creating a strategy for the platform. Because you’ll want to have a platform-specific content strategy for TikTok. Then you’ll need to post consistently, test out what works for your audience, and continuously tweak your content as you go along.
If you’re in a position to do that, I think you should go for it. But if you’d be spreading yourself too thin, you may be better off going hard on the Meta accounts you already have. The most important thing is to be consistent, whatever platform you choose!
