Have you noticed?

What worked on TikTok and LinkedIn a few months ago doesn’t work anymore.

Although we spend hundreds of hours a week on social media, the platforms still keep us on our toes.

And if you care about growing your business on social media, you’d better be paying attention to what’s happening. Today we’re breaking down LinkedIn’s latest update and what it means for you.

In today's newsletter:

  • The change of season is officially here! (get a bunch of content ideas to mark the occasion!)

  • What you NEED to know about LinkedIn's new algo (especially if you want to get leads from the platform)

So, What’s the Tea?

Our NZ summer sun can't last forever! And if you're in our part of the world, as you can probably tell from the weather this week, the season has changed.

But don't get sad boys on us now. Autumn is great!

For starters, we don't get Pumpkin Spice crazed like SOMEONE we know...

But wait! We haven't forgotten you, Northern Hemisphere dwellers!

You can take advantage of the change of season, too! Spring symbolises starting over - it's a reawakening after months of cold and dark.

Most importantly, a new season means a great opportunity for fresh content.

So, here are some ideas:

  • New season fit check! Create content around your team's outfits for this time of year. Show us how you're layering your old summer outfits to make them autumn-friendly. Or give your audience some fashion tips for moving from winter to spring.

  • Whatcha cooking? Let your audience know how you're utilising tasty seasonal produce. You could even ask your followers for their fav recipes, then recreate them in your own content.

  • Add seasonal colours. For our Southern Hemisphere besties, incorporate autumnal tones into your content. This can be through your clothing, on-screen text, or background. And in the Northern Hemi, start using vibrant colours (I know it sounds cliché, but AT LEAST I DIDN'T MENTION FLORALS OK).

  • Offer a discount! Create content around your end-of-season products so your audience can grab them before they're gone.

Now, if you excuse me, I'll be in the corner mourning summer and picking what shade of red lipstick will be my signature look this season.

LinkedIn’s Algo Now Puts YOU Over NEW

LinkedIn's latest algorithm change puts posts that meet your interests ahead of new ones on your feed. The platform is hoping to reward expert knowledge over virality.

LinkedIn's just updated their algorithm, which will bring changes to your feed and post reach. This could mean info you care about finds you easier and your content reaches the right people faster.

Here's what you need to know:

What the heck is LinkedIn doing?

Your LinkedIn feed is about to be less new-focused and more you-focused. This means you'll see more content that interests you - no matter how old it is - ahead of posts that are simply new. Conversely, your best posts will be shown to targeted users months or even years after you've posted them.

Why is this happening?

LinkedIn says it wants to play social media to a different tune than other platforms. Instead of acknowledging virality, the platform wants to reward users who share useful knowledge.

LinkedIn's new focus on putting intelligence over timeliness has been in the works since mid-2023. Last year, the platform began amplifying posts that drive meaningful conversation in the comments. Their previous update also gave more recognition to posts in line with the writer's expertise.

What does this mean for you?

These changes mean a more tailored LinkedIn experience. You'll see more posts and people on your feed that align with your expertise and interests. It's possible your reach will increase as your content is fed to people who are interested in your business. To make the most of these changes, make sure to share your unique expertise in your content.

What's next for LinkedIn?

LinkedIn has several other new features coming down the pipeline. These include verification badges and paying to boost others' posts (such as a good review about your own business). The platform's also rolling out a new newsletter-building tool (think they've heard about us?) and a "creator mode" with audience-building features.

LinkedIn's Editor in Chief Dan Roth told Entrepreneur that the platform was also moving away from using the term "creator". He says LinkedIn isn't abandoning people who call themselves creators. However, they've received feedback that members did not identify with the term. So they've decided to no longer use it, especially since "creators" make up just a fraction of site traffic.

Q - I want to create content consistently but sometimes I blank out. What do I talk about if I can't think of anything? - Ty

Hey Ty!

First of all, you definitely aren't alone! We all blank out sometimes. That's why having a strategy to fall back on is so important.

Here are a few tips you can try.

  • Ask your audience what they want to know. Stan does this all the time. He gets his followers to ask him questions and then creates videos answering them. If your audience is pretty engaged, this could be a great strategy to try.

  • Nail down your content pillars. This sounds basic, but you'd be surprised by how many people don't have them. Once you've got a handful of topics you always talk about, you don't have to reinvent the wheel every day. Keep talking about your core topics so your audience begins to see you as an expert on them.

  • Use this freaking newsletter! Seriously, we're giving out content ideas every single day. Of course, not everything will work for your brand. But you'll be able to get several ideas each week that you can adapt to fit your business.

Hope that helps xoxo
