The packaging industry’s getting a facelift.

Considering how much it contributes to global carbon emissions, it’s about damn time.

By swapping out harmful materials for new, innovative practices the industry may finally be on its way to cleaner, greener days (fingers crossed).

In today's newsletter:

  • The archaic packaging industry is being disrupted (find out what products are changing)

  • Negative feedback helped this brand expand its product range (and why inclusivity matters!)

Packaging As We Know It’s on Its Way Out

Product-based brands like Bite, Plus, and Ethique are disrupting their respective industries using innovative packaging. As consumers demand more sustainable practices, it's time to rethink the materials used in our products.

When you think of disruptive innovation, what comes to mind?

Usually it’s the big-ticket, high-end examples like AI, Blockchain or Uber.

But what about industries that are more prevalent in our daily lives? Product-based industries like body wash, toothpaste or shampoo? These tend to fly under the radar because we don’t see them as ‘shiny and exciting’ compared to what’s going on in Silicon Valley. But the disruptions within these industries are kind of epic.

And they’re for a good cause.

The People Spoke & TIRTIR Listened

Korean beauty brand, TIRTIR, recently faced backlash for their limited shade range of foundations. The brand responded by creating more shades, engaging influencers of colour to test their new products.

Why is finding a perfect foundation shade so difficult?

Even more so if you’re a melanated baddie like me.

So many beauty brands have been called out for not being inclusive.

Recently, TIRTIR, a Korean beauty brand, was under fire for not providing a diverse range of shades for their cushion foundation.

Initially, they only offered 9 shades. But after many critics on TikTok reviewed their brand, they came out with several more. Of course, people questioned why they would need to cater to the rest of us if they’re a Korean brand...

Trend Plug - Spectacular. Give me 14 of Them!

Just five days ago, TikTok user @60somethinglife shared a video of her husband tasting a sweet potato and egg pancake for the first time.

His over-the-top reaction of, 'Spectacular. Give me 14 of them right now,' has since racked up over 10 million views.

His genuine excitement struck a chord. And now, TikTokers everywhere are using this sound to show off things they absolutely love.

We've seen creators use this sound to express their enthusiasm for everything from food, to tattoos, and even perfumes.

How you can jump on this trend:

Lip-sync to the husband's enthusiastic declaration. Have a friend hand you the item you’re raving about, or present it yourself. Use onscreen text to highlight what you want '14 more of.' You can cut the audio before the last part if it doesn't fit your scenario.

A few onscreen text ideas to get you started:

  • 'An expensive design inspiration/reference book'

  • 'Handwritten cursive fonts'

  • 'Another plant for your home office'

Ask the Editor

Q- I just graduated from uni and want to get more active on LinkedIn. I don't really have work experience yet, so what should my posts be about? - Meera

Hey Meera!

So glad to hear you're going to start building your personal brand on LinkedIn. I know it can feel like you've got nothing to post about, but you can totally just write about your personal experiences. What are you learning right now? What are you reading? Who had an impact on you over the last few years?

As you start out in your career, talk about what that's like in your posts. So many other people will be able to relate to what you're experiencing. People who are a little behind you in their journey will start to look up to you. And people who are a bit ahead of you will see their past selves in you.

So just start posting about what you're learning in this stage of life and what challenges you're facing. The best part about this is you'll never run out of content ideas because you'll always be learning something new!
